Minneapolis I-35W Bridge Collapse
Earlier today I decided to look at the news on the internet, and to my great shock and amazement, I saw this.
I cannot tell you how many times I drove across that bridge back when I lived in Minneapolis. The picture on the top of my blog here does not show that bridge in particular, but it's only about a 10 minute walk from where the picture was taken to the bridge that collapsed.
At this point in time, 9 people have been declared dead and 20 people are missing.
I saw the NHK news coverage of this, and I would like to correct a couple of points.
1) The entire bridge was in Minneapolis. St. Paul was not on one the ends of the bridge.
2) The bridge was deemed "structurally deficient" in 2005.

Wow ... that's pretty amazingly bad. I hope heads will roll over the "deemed 'structurally deficient'" thing.
I just hope that everyone I knew over there is fine...
