人生の紆余曲折

And so This is Christmas

When I was young, I used to wonder how Santa Claus ever got into our house on Christmas Eve. You see, my house lacks a fireplace, so there was really no place for him to come down into our house. And yet, every year, he come right on time it seemed with no problem getting into our house.

When I asked my parents how Santa entered our house, I was told that he had a key. But if Santa had a key to our house, where did he get it from? And if this was true, how come the Santa stories never mentioned that he had keys to peoples' houses? Going through the front door seems to me to make more sense than going through the trouble of trying to fit down a narrow chimney!

As I got older, I learned that there was no man alive today named Santa Claus who gives presents to children. This question of how he entered our house became a moot point, and I long had forgotten about it. I got even older and moved to Japan. Christmas lost most of its meaning to me.

This year, however, the online community reminded me that it was Christmastime again. They made Christmas cards and surprised me many times over again. For once, it actually felt like Christmas again.

Santa Claus, the spirit of Christmas does find a way into our households if we let him. He does it through the heart.

Merry Christmas, everyone!
