I learned the following while listening to NPR's News and Notes the other day:
Black men working full time year round make 72 cents per dollar as a white man with a similar education. Black women get about 85 cents. Black unemployment is twice that of whites regardless of the economic situation. On average white Americans live 6 years longer than black Americans.
My god, does that ever infuriate me! I had no idea it was that bad. That is just unexcusable! Simply unexcusable.

The country's come a long way, but... yeah.
Yeah, the country has come a long way, but the more I see where the country is today, the more I see where that starting point was. And let me tell you, for the country to have come a long way and be where it is now, it must have started at a truly horrendous place.
But on the bright side, at least things are progressing in a positive direction, right?
Yeah, things are definitely improving. Let's hope that they continue to for the foreseeable future, too.
Let'S hope they can get to the point where they don't need to improve any more, because Dr. King's dream will have been realized!
