人生の紆余曲折

2008-11-10

I learned the following while listening to NPR's News and Notes the other day:

Black men working full time year round make 72 cents per dollar as a white man with a similar education. Black women get about 85 cents. Black unemployment is twice that of whites regardless of the economic situation. On average white Americans live 6 years longer than black Americans.

My god, does that ever infuriate me! I had no idea it was that bad. That is just unexcusable! Simply unexcusable.

  • Yeah, the country has come a long way, but the more I see where the country is today, the more I see where that starting point was. And let me tell you, for the country to have come a long way and be where it is now, it must have started at a truly horrendous place.

But on the bright side, at least things are progressing in a positive direction, right?

  • Yeah, things are definitely improving. Let's hope that they continue to for the foreseeable future, too.

  • Let'S hope they can get to the point where they don't need to improve any more, because Dr. King's dream will have been realized!
