The Dark Side of American Politics
Being in Japan, I only hear about this a little in passing, but I saw this video on a good friend's blog, and I was less than impressed with the people who appear in it. To think that in 2008 people in America still act this way is scary. Simply appalling.
Disliking one's political opponent is fine. But that should be based on legitimate political differences in opinion, not on rumours and hearsay and speculation.
Let's face it. America has indeed made tremendous progress in racial and religious equality. But the road ahead is still without end in sight.

Pretty appalling indeed. You're right, though: America's made a lot of progress--I mean, we've got a black dude who just might win the Presidency!--but it's a long, long road ahead.
Thanks for the video, btw!
It kind of makes me wonder what the country will be like in 30 or 40 years when white people become a statistical minority. I really hope that the people in the video at least can someday get a more broad perspective on what it really means to be American. I like Powell's response to the religion question. Is it wrong to be Muslim in America? Given the official separation between church and state, how is it even an issue?
How is it an issue? Hey, you leave that to us Americans! We'll figure out a way to make it one, I'll tell ya what!
